The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded 32 communities in Oklahoma for their community water fluoridation (CWF) efforts in 2013. They are among 2,184 communities nationally to be recognized for maintaining fluoride in drinking water for at least nine months of 2013 at the recommended level to prevent tooth decay.
“The Oklahoma State Department of Health supports community water fluoridation and recognizes the practice as beneficial to all who drink and use the water,” said Dr Jana Winfree, Director of Dental Health Service at Oklahoma State Department of Health. Dr Winfree also noted that “Widespread community water fluoridation prevents cavities and saves money for both families and the health care system. Dental diseases affect quality of life. It is important to know that oral health is integral to overall health.”
